According to predictions released by FITURCA, Los Cabos is expecting up to 15% more tourists in 2023 than it welcomed last year!
Hoteliers, VRBO and AirBNB, and local merchants are anticipating yet another record-breaking year for tourism in the Los Cabos region at the tip of the Baja Peninsula. As we welcome more visitors in Los Cabos, local resorts, excursions, and beaches those tourists love will all see needed improvements as more tourism dollars are brought to the area. Future travelers can rest assured that 15% growth over a record-breaking 2022 is good for everyone.
So what is driving this increase in tourism in Los Cabos?
Increased Connectivity
One of the main reasons Los Cabos will likely see tourist growth in 2023 is due to new routes launching to other countries. Los Cabos already has many flights between major U.S. cities such as Chicago, New York, and LA.
But another new flight from LA launched a month ago with Sun Country Airlines, and a separate route between Los Cabos and Cancun will launch later this year, increasing connectivity within Mexico and allowing visitors to explore both tourist vacation regions. As a result of the meetings during the Tianguis turistico (tourist pow-wow) in Mexico City, two airlines are now landing in La Paz. One flies in from Mazatlán with Volaris airlines, while TAR airlines flies in from Chihuahua.
Southwest Airlines is including new routes to Los Cabos this fall, connecting Kansas City, Missouri, and Long Beach, California, to our beautiful destination. Additionally, Southwest Airlines will increase its service in its Denver hub, making it even easier for visitors tired of the cold to reach us.
Los Cabos is also hoping to expand internationally, with more direct flights to Spain and the possibility of routes to European destinations such as England, Germany, and Switzerland.

A Safe Destination for Visitors
More and more visitors are choosing Los Cabos as a vacation destination due to its great safety record, as the region is one of the safest in Mexico, despite the country seeing conflict in other areas. Incidents regarding safety are few and far between. Although certain scams are still ongoing, the authorities have cracked down in the last year by introducing heightened security, military patrols, and CCTV in the tourist zone.
Aside from this, tourists are also regularly reminded to be aware of safety measures when swimming on Los Cabos’ beaches, which can have strong currents and tides in stormy weather, and in hurricane season from September to December. If there’s a Black Flag on the beach, don’t even walk in calf-deep waters.
With the arrival of spring, the weather in Cabo is simply extraordinary.
The sun is shining, the temperatures are rising, and the landscape is bursting with colors. It’s the perfect time to explore our pristine beaches, indulge in outdoor activities, and soak up the warm Mexican hospitality.
People love the Los Cabos region for its proximity, weather, scenery, food, beaches and family activities. Well, we could on and on, but we’ll keep it simple.
Whether a repeat visitor, or traveling to the popular destination for the first time, you’ll find a plethora of new Cabo experiences everyone will want to check out.
Luxury Hotels
As Los Cabos does see a significant increase in tourists, whether Spring Breakers, Cruisers, or vacationers certainly won’t need to worry about where to stay. Los Cabos already has some of the best luxury hotels and renowned brands in the world, with even more opening in 2023.
A number of exciting new properties will be opening in the region, including a St. Regis, Four Seasons, Hyatt, and the area’s first Aman hotel. Due to the increasing number of high-end properties, average nightly rates skyrocketed to around $470 in 2022, which could increase again this year.
Casa Velas will open this year. The luxury property will have 75 – 80 suites and will be located near Mar del Cabo and Grand Velas Los Cabos. Both are flagship properties for Velas Resorts on the Baja California peninsula. The new hotel, Casa Velas Los Cabos, will be the seventh hotel for Velas Resorts. A celebrated collection of luxury properties offering high-quality gastronomy and five-diamond service with an all-inclusive formula.
