According to research, Los Cabos is one of the most popular destinations in February for American tourists.
A recent study confirmed that Americans prefer to spend the second month of the year relaxing on Los Cabos Beaches, as well as Puerto Vallarta and Cancun.
Here in Mexico, it’s noted that beginning just before Christmas each year, advertisements in the USA tend to focus on “US Travel Alerts” listing travel to Mexico as ‘Dangerous’ or south of the border facing a ‘rise in criminal behavior’. Agents, Rental Income owners and Permanent Resident Business Owners believe this is a national strategy. It is intended to encourage Spring Break vacation ticket purchases within US borders. This is understandable, too, especially after the pandemic lockdowns. Business owners everywhere need those Breaker Dollars desperately.
The study highlighted that the region was the top destination for February vacations. Most visitors are planning a trip between February 2nd and 13th, suggesting Valentine’s holidays are many people’s focus.
The Mexico Ministry of Tourism reported that, in 2022, more than 13.3 million travelers arrived in the country by air.
This represents an overall international increase of 28% compared to 2021. But everyone who visits finds time for the beach!
According to the results of the study, Top destinations for Valentine’s Day tourism in the United States, it was highlighted that tourists tend to vacation on Mexican Beaches between February 2 and 13. This also means an increase in the days by 45%, compared to the year 2021ording to data from Mexico’s Tourism Secretary. 270-thousand students are currently set to visit Mexico during the Official spring break season to relax on those Los Cabos Beaches.
The ‘Official Season’ is from May 4th through the end of April. Out of those 270-thousand students, around 32 to 35 thousand will be headed to the shores of Los Cabos, BCS. While that number will represent a 35% increase when compared to the number of spring breakers that came to Cabo in 2021, local authorities have made it clear they are not looking to make things cheaper to lure students to Cabo.
Tourists coming to Los Cabos can expect to spend around 200 to 400 dollars a day on their Cabo vacation.
The Tourism Report indicates the way they’ll keep Cabo exclusive is by keeping hotel prices up during this time of year. Currently, the average per night rate at Cabo hotels is over 450 dollars.
However, Valentine’s Day is not the only reason February is a popular month for tourists to visit. Many tourists plan to visit in February as a post-Christmas break, to spend a week or two in the sun during the coldest months of the year. Frequenting the sunny, warm beaches. Similarly, although February is still high season in Los Cabos, the region’s main influx of tourists comes November through January. Their purpose is either for big celebrations such as Christmas and New Year’s, or a holiday to kick off a new year.
The benefits of visiting in February are: although prices remain relatively high, many of the ‘winter break’ visitors have left. This means there are slightly fewer crowds. Whale-watching season is still in full swing until April. So February can be an ideal time to do a boat trip without hundreds of people.
